#libday8 Tuesday
The second instalment in week long series of Library Day in the Life blog posts for Round 8.
Very busy, frantic morning in the office in which I attempted to cram an entire day worth of work into 3 hours. Mainly catching up with more shelving (the massive back log never seems to disappear and the returns shelves are rarely empty) with some routine orders for tapes thrown in as well.
My afternoon was much less ordinary. I had the afternoon off to travel down to my old university, Warwick, to deliver a careers talk at their Arts, Culture and Heritage event. I spoke last year as well so was delighted to be invited back, and agreed to speak again despite my concerns that library and information work shouldn’t really be part of an Arts, Culture and Heritage event. Whilst I agree librarianship does have cross over with this sector, library and information work is bigger than that and isn’t just confined to these areas. As someone who hasn’t ever worked in libraries within arts, culture or heritage I found it difficult to tailor a talk in which I share my career to this specific path. I opted to give an overview of the profession, mentioning that librarianship can fall into the arts, culture and heritage sector but also giving a broader picture. I think I shall blog about this particular issue in more detail separately but thought it worth a mention here as it was a key part of my day.
My evening was spent on trains back from Coventry to Leeds. Normally I use trains as an opportunity to read a good book but I decided to bring my laptop and get some work done. Managed to write-up 3 blog posts during my journey which equals a rather productive evening.
